Hello! I am currently providing independent school psychologist services to schools. No paying into insurance, no paying for benefits, no paying for services salaried staff can cover; just the services targeted to my profession you need, for whatever caseload size you are needing them for (depending on my availability). Contract soon before I’m all booked up for the 2025-2026 school year!!

currently available for hire and taking new clients

Hello, I share my professional credentials below. To personally introduce myself, I’d like to share that I love the work I do as a school psychologist. My job is like being a detective for academic and social/emotional need. I enjoy digging into cases, analyzing data, and getting to know the children I evaluate. Determining that a disability is present and what specifically that disability is, is the first step to designing programming to target deficits as a means to remediation. This process requires focused intentional measures to ensure all needed areas are evaluated, while also streamlining the process.

Psychology, education, and counseling run in my family. My mom and dad were both school psychologists in the public school systems in the 80s and 90s. Both started as teachers and my dad also went into counseling. My dad has since passed, but I’m pretty certain, if he were here, he’d be taking on this independent endeavor with me. He never liked to be left out of the fun. My maiden name is Bedford, my married name is Nelson, by using both as my business name, it’s like having him along side me.

I have three school aged children of my own who all attend our public school system. I put my heart and soul into my cases, because when my children are struggling, I expect nothing less from the professionals who support their academic and social/emotional needs.

My Background and Goals

I am an experienced educator, psychologist, and counselor. Having worked in the Kansas school systems for more than 20 years, I know children and how the system works. I worked as a special education teacher for almost 10 years before working as a salaried Nationally Certified School Psychologist for another 12 years. I have been identifying educational needs, writing plans to serve those needs, and carrying out targeted instruction for more than 2 decades. I have also worked on and off as a Licensed Professional Counselor over the years.

I am going into my 3rd independent year in business for schools. I do believe that if schools would take on a business mind when hiring for services, kids psychoeducational needs could be covered and schools could be financially better off in the long run.

School psychologists are trained to provide a multitude of services. However, when it comes down to it, we are the only professionals who are adequately trained to determine eligibility possibilities for special education. Schools don’t need to pay me to provide counseling, teach courses, or supervise recess (yes, I’ve done all that).

My goal as a business minded school psychologist is to provide initial and re-evaluation eligibility determination services, targeted intervention recommendations, and assist teachers in understanding how to implement the determined service needs to target student deficits for focused remediation. These are the services targeted to my profession/licenses/degrees. I want to provide these services to schools at a fair and affordable rate.
